Determination of Melamine in Egg by Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry

A GC-MS method for the determination of melamine in eggs was developed. Following trichloracetic acid extraction and purification on MCX collumn, melamine was derivatized and then determined by gas chromatographymass spectrometry. The characteristic ions for confirmation were m/z 342, 327, 171 and 99, and the quantitation ion was selected as m/z 327. The limit of quantitation was 0.5 μg/g, the recoveries of melamine from spiked eggs at levels of 0.5～10 μg/g ranged from 89.2%～96.2% with CVs of 2.9%～5.6%.
