By comparing with the zinc gel and alkaline Zn-MnO2 batteries without sodium silicate,it was found that the expansion rate of zinc gel and gas evolution of batteries obviously decreased, and the storage performance and anti-leakage performance at high temperature of batteries were greatly improved by adding 0.1‰~0.6‰sodium silicate. It was not helpful to improving discharge performance of new batteries when the proportion of sodium silicate exceed 0.4‰.By analysis, best synthetical performance could be achieved when adding 0.3‰sodium silicate in zinc gel of the alkaline Zn-MnO2 batteries.
