Lanthanum zinc titanium double perovskite doped with europium ions (La2ZnTiO6:Eu3+(LZTO:Eu3+)) were prepared by a sol–gel method followed by annealing treatment. The developed LZTO:Eu3+ phosphors were validated by demonstrating the structural, morphological and photoluminescence (PL) properties. The PL excitation and PL emission spectra confirmed that the LZTO:Eu3+ phosphors emit bright red light under near-ultraviolet (396 nm) and visible (465) nm radiations. The optimal doping concentration of Eu3+ ions was found to be about 8 mol%. The Commission International de L′Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates for LZTO:8Eu3+ phosphors were located in the red region with (0.645, 0.346) under 396 nm excitation and (0.644, 0.354) under 465 nm excitation and exhibited the color purity of about 90.3%. All the results indicate that the LZTO:Eu3+ phosphors would be the potential candidates for their use in WLEDs and visualizing the latent fingerprints.
