The interest in avoiding this surgery is partially due to improved imaging techniques that allow physicians to verify more conclusively the absence of disease in this region of lymphatic drainage (true clinical stage I disease). In addition, high chemotherapeutic cure rates have been seen (2) in patients with advanced testis cancer.Within the past 3 years or more several nonrandomized prospective trials have provided insight into the role of orchiectomy alone for clinical stage I nonseminomatous testicular cancer.
