Two alkaloids were isolated from the root of the Chinese drug Aconitum duclouxii Levl collected from Yunnan Province. One of the alkaloids was identified as aconitine by comparing its physical and chemical properties with authentic sample. The second alkaloid with the molecular formula C_(34)H_(47)O_(10)N and melting point of 168~169℃ was found to be a new aconitine alkaloid by interpretation of its IR, MS and ~1HNMR spectra. Its structure is suggested as 12-β-hydroxy chasmaconitine. It is named duclouxine.
