Separation of red mud with chitosan as a flocculant

Chitosan is a nature polymer flocculant and mainly made of shrimp and crab shells. The chitosan resource is abundant and its price is getting cheaper. The utilization of Chitosan as a red mud flocculant of sintering process is studied. The flocculating ability of chitosan is compared with industrial flocculant A 2000 and PAS 1. Experiment result suggests that chitosan does have flocculating ability as red mud flocculant. The optimum addition quantity of chitosan is 0 025% of dry red mud.The average settling velocity of the first two minutes is 6 85cm·min -1 . The placement of chitosan liquid for 30 hours don't influence the flocculating greatly.
