Selection of surgical method for tibial plateau fracture

Objective:To analyze the selection of surgical method for tibial plateau fracture and its indication.Methods:Eighty-nine patients with tibial plateau fractures were treated with different methods.Close reduction and internal fixation with hollow screw was used in 51 cases,open reduction and internal fixation with plate was used in 38 cases base on the type of fractures.The results of all the cases were evaluated according to the modified Hohl score of knee joint function.Results:Forty-five patients of closed reduction were followed up from 10 months to 6 years with an average of 38 months.Twenty cases obtained excellent result,19 good,3 fair,3 poor.The rate of excellent and good was 86.7%.Thirty-eight patients of open reduction were followed up from 10 months to 5 years with an average of 36 months.Nineteen cases obtained excellent result,14 good,3 fair,2 poor.The rate of excellent and good was 86.8%.Conclusions:Close reduction and internal fixation is relatively suitable for the treatment of tibial plateau fracture of Schatzker ⅠⅣ and Schatzker Ⅴ,Ⅵ must be treated with open reduction and internal fixation.
