EFFECTIVENESS SEMBUNG ( Blumea balsamifera ) AS LARVICIDES TO MORTALITY Aedes aegypti LARVA Nur Alvira 1 , Ni Made Dina Dwipayanti ABSTRACT Background: The Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a contagious disease spread through the bites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. One of its control is through its vector with chemical methods, among which is with the use of Sembung (Blumea balsamifera) leaves. The leaves contain essential oil as an active substance which can work as a larvicide. It works as an inhibitor in the digestive and neural systems. Research Background: This research was aimed at discovering the effectiveness of Sembung (Blumea balsamifera) as a larvicide to Aedes aegypti larvas mortality. Research Method: This study was a true experimental research with instar III-IVAedes aegypti larvas as the objects. Non-ethanol Sembung leave extracts were prepared in three different dosages, namely 1, 2.5 and 5 mgs, and were put in 4 media with 25 Aedes aegypti larvas. The observation on the mortality of the larva was conducted every 6 hours within a 24-hour period (Abott Formula). The water temperature, air humidity, larva feed, water source and lighting were controlled. No treatment was applied to the control group. The data were analyzed with the ANOVA test with α=0.05 and CI =95%. Research Result: The mortality percentage of Aedes aegypti larvas within the period of 24 hours with the dosages of 1 mg, 2.5 mgs, and 5 mgs were respectivelywas 8.8%, 14.4%, and16.8%, while among the control group it was 2.4%).The statistical analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the mortality percentages of Aedes aegypti larva (p>0.05)in all applications of the Sembung leave extract. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the mortality of AedesAegypti larvas among the applications of the  1-mg, 2.5-mg and 5-mg Sembung leave extract.
