This paper reviews the recent articles on the effects of exercise on 24 hours ambulatory blood pressuer and draws the conclusions that blood pressure reduces for up to 22 hours after an acute exercise, and even lower than that of the control level(e.g.postexercise hypotension). On the other hand, the chronic aerobic exercises at modest intensity have better effects on reducing 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure for subjects with normal blood pressure or hypertension. The proposed mechanisms for the blood pressure lowering effects of exercise include genetic influences, neurohumoral factors, vascular strcture and responsiveness, body weight losing and insulin resistance decreasing and so on.
