CLASSIFICATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF MITHRAMYCIN-PRODUCING STRAIN SIPI 91-81

The strain SIPI 91-81 isolated from soil samples collected in suburbs of Shanghai has been found to produce antitumor compound identical with mithramycin.This producing strain is similar to known Streptomyces atroolivaceus mithramycin-producing strain 11294, but still has some differences in cultural and physiological characteristics.Therefore, it is named Streptomyces atroolivaceus shanghaiensis SIPI 91-81.
