Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of tirofiban in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome by percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods One hundred and six in-patients with acute coronary syndrome receiving percutaneous coronary intervention were divided into group of tirofiban(n=52) and control group(n=54).All patients received intravenous heparin, oral aspirin and clopidogrel. The group of tirofiban was given loading dose of tirofiban and maintenance dose for 36 hours before the implantation of stent. All patients were evaluated the end point events, observed the occurrance of severe hemorrhage and monitored the platelet aggregation rate and blood platelet count. Results The frequency of the composite primary end point events at 36 hours was lower in group of tirofiban than that in control group(P0.05).The occurence rate of the composite end point events in group of tirofiban were obviously lower than that in control group at 30 days(P0.05).The platelet aggregation rate decreased(P0.01)group of tirofiba. There was no severe complication as hemorrhage or thrombocytopenia. Conclusion Tirofiban is effective and safe for elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome by percutaneous coronary intervention.
