The ongoing evolution of EVTOLs: urban transport potential and the security dimension

This review article explores the evolution, potential applications and security applications of electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) technology, highlighting its commercial, emergency, security and military uses in urban environments. It discusses the technical, infrastructural, policy planning and financial challenges of integrating EVTOLs into urban transportation systems, as well as the potential threats posed by nonstate actors repurposing EVTOLs for offensive operations. The document also examines the use of EVTOLs in emergency response and military operations, emphasizing their rapid start-up times, maneuverability and eco-friendly nature, which is perfect for urban operations.
