Using the Gaussian beam approximatio n and from the viewpoint of mode matching,the optical coupling theory between lase r diode (LD) and single-mode fibers (SMF) is described in this paper,which is b ased on the matrix optical theory and the ABCD[WT5”,6BZ] law.A n optimum design for the mode matching for between LDs elliptical Gaussian bea m and SMFs circular Gaussian beam is presented.It is not only valuable for imp roving the coupling efficiency bet ween LD and SMF,but an effective approach to implement the collimation and trans ition from elliptical Gaussian beam into circular Gaussian beam.
