摘要
Abstract Zinc is in group 12 ( IIB ) of the periodic table and exhibits a valence of +2 in all its compounds. Being high on the electromotive series, zinc forms quite stable compounds and, as such, resembles magnesium. Bonding in zinc compounds tends to be covalent, as in the sulfide and oxide. In this article, the properties of zinc compounds are provided, with special attention given to zinc oxide, zinc chloride, and zinc sulfate. Production and processing of these compounds are discussed. Zinc is needed for the proper functioning of plants and animals and this is discussed along with health and safety aspects, uses, and economics.
