The conically-shaped microlens for achieving a low coupling loss between a laser diode and a single-mode fibre

A conically-shaped microlens has been fabricated directly on the end face of a single-mode fibre (SMF) which demonstrates low coupling losses of -1.8 dB and -1.34 dB at the operating wavelengths of 0.82 /spl mu/m and 1.55 /spl mu/m, respectively. Experimental results on lateral and axial misalignments are also reported.
