摘要
In the current era of energy crisis and severe environmental pollution, seeking an energy-saving and environmentally friendly efficient method to treat pollutants in water is an important task. The application of ultraviolet (UV) and even visible light (Vis), as well as corresponding novel catalysts in the advanced oxidation process of periodate (PI) for pollutants degradation, has been greatly praised. Although the mechanisms and influencing factors of various UV(Vis)/PI-based systems have been continuously studied, there is currently no systematic review published in this area. Therefore, in this review, we generalized the properties of PI and the types of light sources used to activate the PI, analyzed the catalytic degradation mechanisms of various UV/(Vis)/PI-based systems and related influencing factors toward organic pollutants. Additionally, we provided an economic evaluation and the prospects of the UV(Vis)/PI-based systems. This review is expected to help researchers better understand the knowledge gap of photo-mediated advanced oxidation of PI toward organics degradation.
