An Important Problem:Urban Sprawl

Reveals a phenomenon that we cannot neglect in the course of urbanization in China: urban sprawl.The causes of urban sprawl are mainly the rapid increase in urban population,residents' demand to improve their lodging conditions,disorderly construction of eco-technological development zones and migration of college campuses from urban districts to suburbs.Analyzes the environmental problems thus caused,which will lead to the waste of the presently deficient urban water,land and marsh resources and become one of the predominant reasons of unsustainable urban development.Some countermeasures are put forward against the urban sprawl: the urban administrators should change their out-of-date ideas and pay more attention to the theories prevailing in developed countries in the process of urbanization,such as smart growth,compact urban development and eco-budget, make urban development planning more scientific,and strengthen urban environment administration.
