The concept of vibrational power, in conjunction with the reciprocity analysis method, provides a powerful means of studying the mechanisms and transfer paths by which ship's machinery can cause unwanted underwater-radiated noise. The prediction and measurement of power transmission through machinery isolators is described together with the measurement of power 'flow' through beam structures. The reciprocity measurement set-up and conditions and also the requirements concerning instrumentation and signal analysis techniques are also discussed.
