The performance experiment was carried out in a full scale compressor test rig in order to validate the redesign of a multistage axial compressor. The capacity of two different kinds of one-dimensional computational code used in predicting the performance characteristics of multistage axial compressor was investigated in detail. The performance characteristics changes between improved compressor and prototype were compared. In addition, the measured flow field of the improved compressor was also analyzed. The results show that the computational characteristics are agreed well with experimental results, and the performance of the improved compressor has reached the design goal. The improved compressor not only keeps and/or increases high efficiency and high surge margin at design rotational speed, but also significantly improves performance at middle or low rotational speed of prototype even though one stage is reduced. Therefore, the improvement of the multistage axial compressor is successful.
