Thiophene, a heterocyclic aromatic compound characterized by its five-membered ring structure, has gained significant attention due to its wide range of biological applications. This review explores the structural properties of thiophene, consisting of four carbon atoms and one sulfur atom, and its importance in medicinal chemistry. Thiophene derivatives exhibit high efficacy against microorganisms and are integral components of various pharmacological drugs. This article provides an overview of the different synthetic routes for thiophene derivatives, their applications in several biological fields, and recent advances in enhancing synthesis efficiency.
