Marine fungi have proven to be a rich source of many fascinating secondary metabolites with various biological activities. It is believed that these chemicals are produced by marine fungi as a response to the extreme habitat where they live, and also as a chemical defense since fungi are competing for nutrients. Chemical investigation of a sponge-derived Acremonium persicinum has resulted in the isolation of novel secondary metabolites together with 3 known acremines A, F and N. Compounds 9 and 10 were also isolated, however they may be artefacts due to isolation process. The structures and stereochemistry of the novel compounds were deduced based on 2D NMR data.
