The wind-induced responses of Diwang building with 324m high and 79-story,were numerically evaluated in time domain on the basis of the measurements of full-scale building under actual typhoon and the established finite element model of the building. The predicted dynamic responses of the building using the actual amplitude-dependent damping characteristics were compared to those computed by using a series of constant damping parameters including what is assumed by the structural designers. It is found that there may exist a RMS equivalent damping(RMSE Damping),which has the smallest RMS error and is,in some sense,a good approximate to the amplitude-dependent damping. The characteristic of the RMSE damping were discussed, including how does it change with the turbulent wind excitations, what does it represent when the response is a stationary or non-stationary process, and what will encounter when it is used in design.
