Urban Transport Policy - the Future

Transportation is intrinsically related to land use and the planning policies for a city are, or should be, major determinants of complementary policies for transport. The influence of politics on planning and transport is ignored at ones peril - so much of the implementation, and for that matter the success of planning and transport policies, depends upon the 'political will'. The urban transport policy for the future will not only recognise this factor but also take into account the need to integrate available transport modes, the need to design for harmony between land use and transport, and also to recognise the conflict between the aspirations of the community and the individual.
