Objective To develop a measurement for the permeation of baicalin through rat skin in vitro and study the enhancing effect of PG on the permeatice rate of baicalin of eczema spray in order to seek out optimum concentration of enhancing permeation and increase its curative effect. Methods The test for baicalin permeation through large white rat ventral skin in vitro was performed in a special improved Franz (one-compartment)diffusion cell. The amounts of baicalin of this permeation cumulative permeation were determined with a first derivative spectrum method. Influence of different concentration of PG. on the permeation of baicalin through rat skin in vitro was observed. Results The needed time which the percent of cumulative permeation in variant concentration of PG through rat skin in vitro reach to 5% (T5) from quick to slow was as follows: 8.0%,7.0%,5.0%,6.0%, 15.0% ,10.0%;the percent of cumulative permeation in 5 h of the permeation of baicalin through rat skin in vitro(Q 5 h ) from large to small was as follows: 7.0%,6.0%,5.0%,8.0%,15.0%,10.0%. Conclusion Optimum concentration of enhancing permeation effect of PG in eczema spray is 7.0%~8.0% as the percent of volume.
