Chronic pain is persistent pain caused by tissue damage, lasting for months or even years. Common types of chronic pain include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, migraines, and tendinitis. Treatments include pharmacological therapy, electrical stimulation, and nerve blocks. In this work, we choose electrical stimulation by implantable devices. Conventional implantable electrical stimulators rely on wired electrodes and batteries, leading to invasive procedures and maintenance risks. Wireless power transfer technologies, particularly electromagnetic (EM) waves and ultrasound, offer safer, battery-free alternatives. Compared to EM waves, ultrasound provides better biocompatibility, lower tissue attenuation, and efficient energy harvesting through the piezoelectric effect. Operating with within clinically approved limits power density (720 mW/cm2), ultrasound enables safe, deep-tissue wireless power delivery for implantable medical devices.
