Derivatization-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for determination of sugars in beers

A new method using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)coupled with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and pre-column derivatization by 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone (PMP) was set up for the seperation and determination of a mixture of Mannose, Rhamnose, Glucose,Galacose, Xylose. The selective ion mode(SIM) was used to avoid the interference of other components. The determination range of five sugars in beer were 0.0014～0.4042 g/L. The detection limits were ～80 pg.
