The development of the scientific school is inherently associated with the Department of Bases and Foundations, which in 2019 was renamed into Engineering Geology and Geotechnics, in accordance with the actualization of modern world scientific directions. Thanks to the classical basis and 40-year traditions of the scientific school, the staff of the department have always carried out scientific substantiation and took part in the development of state building regulations. Today, the department, approaching the world level, is developing taking into account the requirements of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnics (ISSMGE), a science that unites engineering geology, which studies soils, soil mechanics, creates computational models, design of foundations and underground structures using modern software systems, production technology work on the construction of foundations, monitoring these works and the safety of the surrounding buildings.
