Fluorescent isoindole crosslink (FlICk) chemistry, which produces cyclic peptides with a fluorescent twist, is introduced by D. M. Perrin and co-workers in their Communication on page 14120 ff. The reaction between ortho-phthalaldehydes and amine- and thiol-bearing side chains in peptides produces isoindole-stapled, bioactive, mono- and bicyclic peptides with tunable photophysical properties, under mild, metal-free conditions.
