To assess the effect of Xianzhen Tablet Composita(XZTC)on blood glucose(BG),glycosylatevl hemoglobin(HbA_1c)and renal function of streptozocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats.Methods:Diabetic rats were randomized into 4 groups:the diabetes model group,the western medicine(Benalapril and Gliquidone)treated group,the high dose and the low dose XZTC treated group.A normal group of non-diabetic rats matched in age and body weight with the diabetic rats was also set up for control.Changes of blood glucose (BG),HbA_1c,urinary microalbumin(m-Alb),serum creatinine(SCr)and blood urea nitrogen(BUN)before and after treatment were ob- served.Results:Levels of BG,HbAlc,m-Alb,SCr and BUN after 12 weeks or 24 weeks of high or low dose XZTC treatment were sig- nificantly lower than those in the model group(P0.01).The levels of HbA_1c,m-AIb,BUN at week 12 and week 24,and BG,SCr at week 24 in the high dose XZTC treated group were lower than those in the low dose XZTC treated group(P0.05-0.01)respective- ly.Conclusion:XZTC could improve the renal function by reducing BG,HbA_1c,thus to prevent and treat diabetic nephropathy.
