Objective To identify the diagnostic code of intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infection by the clinical observation of PICC catheter-related infection in 11 very low birth weight infants. Methods Clinical data preterm/very low birth weight infants with PICC catheter insertion who were received in NICU were collected.Analysis were given to 11 cases whose blood cultures were positive after catheter insertion. Results One case was finally diagnosed with intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infection by the diagnostic code, and others were suspected cases of catheter-related infection. Conclusion To the preterm/very low birth weight infants, especially the infants with PICC catheter, the prevention of infection is more important than the specific cause,no matter whether the diagnose of intravascular catheter-related bloodstream infection is established. And removing the catheter immediately is not the best choice as soon as the blood culture is positive in infants with PICC catheter insertion.
