In this paper,methods of modification on phenolic resin used as fire-proof materials were generally introduced.The foreground of adjacent phenyl phenol method was analyzed.By result analysis,the effect of some factors on synthesis process has been investigated and the best process parameters were determined.The optimized conditions were as follows:the ratio of phenol,formaldehyde and adjacent phenyl phenol was 1:1.2:0.8,the temperature was 95℃,the reaction time was 3.5 hours.The rate of residual carbon was 54.8%,which was about 10% higher than that of common thermosetting phenolic resins.The resulsts showed that this new phenolic resin was a better binder for refractory than common phenolic resins.
