Comparative Analysis of Pre- and Post-Surgery Exhaled Breath Profiles of Volatile Organic Compounds of Patients with Lung Cancer and Benign Tumors

Abstract Exhaled breath analysis is a promising approach to diagnosing lung cancer in clinical practice. We studied the exhaled breath profiles of volatile organic compounds of patients with malignant and benign tumors before and after surgery. The nature of alterations in the qualitative composition of the exhaled breath after surgery is identical for benign and malignant tumors; however, the ratios of peak areas of some components which changed significantly after surgery differed in patients with malignant and benign tumors.
