Enhanced emission under proton stimuli based on a phenanthroimidazole derivative by switching the excited state type from the CT to the LE state

We report a vertical D–A molecule showing rare off–on TFA-fuming stimuli responsiveness via changing the excited state from the charge transfer (CT) state to the localized excited (LE) state.
