The structure and biosynthesis of hinnuliquinone, a pigment from Nodulisporium hinnuleum

The pigment, hinnuliquinone, isolated from the fungus Nodulisporium hinnuleum, has been shown to be 2,5-bis[2-(1,1-dimethylprop-2-enyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]-3,6-dihydroxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione. It is biosynthesized from tryptophan and mevalonic acid.
