摘要
The porosity of a windbarrier is recognized as having an important impact on its efficiency in reducing the velocity of the wind. The estimation of porosity in living windbreaks, however, can be difficult due to the irregular size, shape and distribution of the pores. A number of researchers have used photographs to estimate porosity by manually counting the number of grid points which fall in pores. This paper suggests a method of computerizing this procedure to improve speed and accuracy, by digitizing photographic silhouettes of the windbreak. The system was found to be capable of estimating porosities to within 2%, in a very time-efficient manner.
