The effect of cryopreservation on the ability of fertilization of human sperm

Objective To evaluate the effect of cryopreservation on the ability of fertilization of human sperm.Methods Using a method of in vitro fertilization of zona free hamster oocytes with human sperm(sperm penetration assay),by comparing the frequencies of human sperm to penetrate specially prepared hamster ova before and after freezing and different freezing methods,to evaluate the effect of cryopreservation on the ability of fertilization of human sperm.Results The results indicated significant differences between fresh (36.41±8.75)%,fast frozen (24.63±7.75)% and slow frozen sperm (31.20±7.23)% in frequencies of human sperm to penetrate ovum( P 0.01).Conclusion These studies indicate that the ability of fertilization of human sperm descends significantly after freezing.The more rapid to reduce the temperature,the more significant the ability of fertilization of human sperm descends during the sperm cryopreservation.The sperm penetration assay will provide important clinical value before and after freezing.
