The comparative effects of Abana and cholestyramine on serum lipids and lipoproteins in hypercholesterolaemic rabbits were studied. Both the drugs, Abana and cholestyramine, reduced TC and LDL-c significantly less (p<0.05) in comparison to controls. The rise in TG was significantly less (p<0.01) in the Abana-treated group than in the cholestyramine and control groups. A significant reduction in the TC/HDL-c ratio was observed in the cholestyramine (p<0.01) and Abana (p<0.001) treated groups, whereas increased levels were observed in the control group.
