Comparison of Major Charactess between Hybrid Japonica Rice and Conventional Japonica Rice from Jiangsu Province

The hybrid japonica rice and conventional japonica rice in the regional trials of Jiangsu province from 2004 to 2005 were chosen to compare their major agronomic and quality characters.The results showed that hybrid japonica rice had a marked yield advantage to conventional japonica rice.Compared with the conventional japonica rice,the hybrid japonica rice had higher plants,bigger panicles with more spikelets and heavier grains,but it had lower seed setting percentage.The main quality characters of hybrid japonica rice were lower than those of conventional japonica rice,but the seed of hybrid japonica rice was longer and wider with better rice kernel ratio.According to the analysis results,problems and developmental directions of hybrid japonica rice in Jiangsu province were discussed in the paper.
