Clinical Applications and Rational Use of Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin is stronger than other antibaterials in the third generation of quinolones. It has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Ciprofloxacin has excellent activity against bacteria and mycoplasmas, including many organisms resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins and aminoglycosides. So it is applied for the treatments of a wide variety of infectious diseases, such as gastrointestinal tract, pulmonary, obstetric, local infection, and so on. Ciprofloxacin is also applied to prevent and cure the infectious diseases of aquatic animal and poultry. The antibacterial spectrum,clinical applications,combination use with other antibacterial, and side reactions of ciprofloxacin are summarized in this paper.
