WC-Co alloy coatings have been produced by the low pressure plasma spray(LPPS)process. The compositions, phase constituents, adhesive strength and thermal-shock resistance of the coatings were analyzed and measured. The property comparison has been made between this coating and air plasma sprayed (APS)coatings. Results indicate that LPPS can effectively prevent WC from oxida- tion and decomposition, which is beneficial to WC-Co coatings for getting stable structure and properties. The pre-treatment procedure by use of inverse transferred are for cleaning and activating the surface of substrate can promote the metallurgical binding between the coating and the substrate, resulting in the increase of the adhe- sive strength of the coating with the substrate, and in improvement of the thermal- shock resistance of the coatings.
